Joan
Henjum Pastor
Joan Henjum is our pastor. A
United Church of Christ (UCC) minister, Joan previously worked with homeless
people at the Solanus Casey Center in Seattle and at Mountlake Terrace Food
Bank. Joan has worked with women in leadership training while facilitating
community development projects in the Marshall Islands, South Korea and
Australia. She also has several years experience working with volunteers in
churches and social agencies. While getting her Masters of Divinity at Seattle
University, Joan created connections with pastors from several denominations
currently serving area churches.
Marty Hartman -- Program
Director
Marty Hartman is the Program Director and has led Mary's Place, our weekday program,
since its beginning in 1999. She
brings professional experience in the recreational therapy with the
disabled and mentally ill and with special needs students. Girl Scouts,
PTA, children's ministry, motherhood and a B.S. in Recreation
Administration (Therapeutic) from California State Polytechnic
University of Pomona prepared her well for this job. She was the coordinator for the Lakeview Women's Shelter for many years,
organizing everything from van drivers to prayer support.
Kimberly Tanner -- Mary's Place Assistant Program
Coordinator
Kim
is the program assistant of Mary's Place, our weekday program. Before becoming a staff member, Kim
was a founding participant in the Mary's Place program.
Christine Weed -- Administrative & Development Director
As the
administrative and development director Christine is responsible for public
relations, donor relations, grant writing and administrative oversight of
operations. She brings more than twenty years of successful management
experience working in non-profit and public agencies and a degree in Master in
Public Administration from the University of Washington to the organization. Her
passion for the mission of the organization motivates her to work to sustain and
increase the funding support for the Church of Mary Magdalene/Mary’s Place
ministry to homeless women.
Carol Cameron -- Office Manager
Carol is
at the center of our busy office, handling program, administrative, and
financial details with attentive competence. With previous experience in
bookkeeping, she brings recordkeeping sensibilities to our human services. Before
joining us as office manager, Carol was a leader and active participant in
Mary's Place and the Church of Mary Magdalene. She is active with WHEEL
organizing efforts with homeless women.
Sari Breznau -- Music Director
Sari is our music director, livening up our Saturday mornings with an eclectic
mix of old favorites and new discoveries. She directs the choir for our
services and community appearances. Sari is a music graduate of Western
Washington University, with experience that ranges from church musician
to cabaret singer. She plays piano, trumpet and guitar, and loves to help people
build community by singing together.
Suzanne Gillette Ph. D. -- Parish Nurse
Suzanne is our parish nurse, providing nursing care to the women and supervising
volunteer nurses and students. Suzanne's dissertation
research at the University of Washington focused on homeless women. She is also is a longtime volunteer for the
Women's Referral Center. Since this is a quarter time position we share
Suzanne with Seattle University, where she is on the nursing faculty. We are
grateful to the Foster Foundation for funding this program.
